Thoughts & Philosophy

     Religions, governments and societies like to tell us that we must have meaning and purpose to our lives. Guess what? That's bull shit.  Stop, look and think. Religion, government and the economic elite - in much of the world these are the capitalists - are the primary beneficiaries of such nonsense.  They define meaning and purpose in accordance with their own goals and philosophies and then mandate that these be yours. The only real meaning in life is what you give it. The only purpose is to be yourself and live life to the fullest.       This doesn't mean that you must be a selfish asshole. We have more than we need of those. I find it amazing that, as arrogant and selfish as we are as a species, many individuals find altruism very rewarding and it is that which gives them meaning and fulfillment.      Sadly I spend more time than I would like thinking about how I've come to the point of having no hope.  Oh, people love to lecture me and preach at me about how I should have hope.  Equally as sad, is that they really can't give me any good reason to have hope.        Well, to all those who have been so upset with my lack of hope I can say 'I see one source of hope.'  Nature. I will have to admit that it is a hope without homo sapiens. Maybe that's why I see it as hope.     I bet there are a lot of people who follow my posts and blogs and wonder if I can say anything nice about humans.  Well, I do feel that I can. Let me give it a try.       Humans have the ability to be very compassionate.  An example is  www.humaneborders.org .  They leave water along the routes most used by illegal immigrants going from Mexico to the US not because they want to encourage illegal immigration but because they don't want people dying of exposure and dehydration.  www.doctorswithoutborders.org  is another tremendously compassionate group of people willing to risk their lives to provide medical care for innocent people caught in the strife of war.         Yes humans have the ability to be extremely compassionate.
